Company Development

Does your company really need an upgrade to your AS/400?  Is development and testing work slowing down your mission-critical applications?  Would you like to do your development on another AS/400 to speed up your existing machine?  Do you need a quick capacity boost for a short term project?  Do you need a remote machine for testing web-enabled applications or FTP procedures?  Are you a small company looking to develop a product for the AS/400 but don’t have the capital to buy one?

Renting capacity at TimeShare400 will help alleviate these problems.  Set up a development environment and have your programmers connect to TimeShare400’s machines via the internet.  If you need to set up a specific test environment, we can work with you to set up the exact environment you need for your testing.

TimeShare400’s equipment is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (pending internet connectivity).  Your programmers can open a window to the TimeShare400 machine and another window to your local machine.

A basic company development account includes the following features:

two user ID’s
four 5250 display device sessions (two per user ID)
multiple signons per device (via either System Request or Group Jobs)
four libraries – one reserved for save file backups (see the information on backups below)
one batch job queue
four output queues (two that can be sent to printers, the others for holding output)
100 MB of storage
access to CD Image creation software (must be scheduled, additional charge) for software distribution preparation purposes
Programming Languages and Tools

You will have access to RPG, Cobol, C, Java, Query, SQL, ADTS (SEU, SDA, PDM, etc), DFU, FTP, Code/400, VRPG, DB2 UDB and more!  If you need additional languages, or have a question about a specific programming language or tool, please contact us with the form below.

Security

Your libraries will be not be visible to other developers, nor will you be able to see other developers’ libraries.

Compiles and other long running batch jobs….

Your development AS/400 will be a shared resource.  You will have a single threaded batch queue to use for long running processes, like compiles and other big batch jobs.  The system will be monitored for performance purposes.  Users found to be abusing the interactive subsystem by running tasks that should be submitted to batch will be contacted and asked to submit such jobs to their batch queue.  Failure to follow these and other generally accepted “rules of etiquette” may result in cancellation of your account.

Backups

One of your libraries will be a ‘save file’ library.  Your host AS/400 will be backed up to tape on a regular basis, but your access to these tapes will be very limited.   Since you will want (and need) easy access to save and restore your objects as you see fit, we recommend that you do your own back ups to save files in your ‘save file library’.  You can then do your own restores as needed.  Your save file backup library will be backed up to tape along with the rest of the system, so in the event of a disaster they can be restored from tape.  Should you ever need a tape restore done, those can be arranged separately.

Emulation Software

If you need terminal emulation software, we have some recommendations.  Click here for more information.
